COMMUNITY & EDUCATION

Student Placements and Training

RDCS is an approved placement provider for Barnsley College, supporting Level 4 counselling students who need 100 client hours to qualify.

By offering structured placements, we increase the availability of low‑cost counselling in Barnsley while helping to train the next generation of counsellors in a supportive, real‑world setting.

Our placement students are closely supervised and work within RDCS’s ethical and clinical frameworks, ensuring safe and effective counselling for clients.

Outreach, Workshops and Community Engagement

We aim to develop RDCS into a local hub for mental health education and community outreach in Barnsley.

This includes delivering talks, workshops, and presentations to schools, colleges, community groups, and workplaces about mental health, resilience, and the benefits of talking therapy.

Our goal is to make conversations about mental health more open, reduce stigma around counselling, and encourage people who may not usually seek support to consider it as a positive option.

Peer and Group Support

Alongside individual counselling, RDCS plans to introduce peer and group support initiatives designed to combat loneliness and build social connections in Barnsley.

These groups will provide safe spaces for people to share experiences, support one another, and develop coping strategies together, guided by trained facilitators.

Fundraising and Volunteering

As a Community Interest Company, RDCS will run regular fundraising activities such as:

  • Collection points at fairs, public events, and supermarkets
  • Sponsored walks, runs, and swims
  • Coffee mornings designed both to raise funds and to combat loneliness
  • Pop‑up “fancy a cuppa and a chin wag?” stalls in community spaces

We welcome volunteers who want to support our mission, including board members, counsellors, students, and event helpers.
